Homes and HVAC systems in Lake Forest

Neighborhoods around the two private lakes that gave the city its name include many homes from the 1970s and 1980s with original-style duct layouts. Foothill Ranch and Portola Hills were built mainly in the late 1980s and 1990s, and many of those homes still have their first or second HVAC system, which is reaching the end of its typical life.

Lake Forest is inland, and the foothill neighborhoods near the Santa Ana Mountains can be warmer in summer and cooler on winter nights than central Orange County. That makes both cooling and heating performance important.
